Salinas girls soccer

Salinas coach Ralph Bozzo called his squad a hidden gem.
He forgot to mention league champions for a third consecutive season, having gone 30-1-5 in the Gabilan Division during that time.
The Cowboys got the attention of the rest of the Central Coast Section when they were bumped into the Open Division -- one of only eight teams extended an invitation.
Of course, that means a meeting with top seed and the states No. 11 ranked team in 15-2-3 Mitty.
Salinas is familiar with the style that the powerful West Catholic Athletic League plays, having faced Valley Christian the last three years, having fallen 2-1 in all three games.
Valley Christian played Mitty to a 1-1 draw in WCAL play, and fell 2-1 this winter.
Taylor Burbank has produced a team high 11 goals for the Cowboys while Alondra Partida leads the team in points with eight goals and eight assists. Brooke Oleson has six goals and six assists.
Defense has been Salinas' strength during its run of league titles. Reigning league MVP Kimi Chin is part of a unit that has not allowed a goal in its last seven games and 13 of its last 14.
Goalies Isabella Perez and Alison O'Dell have combined for over 100 saves and 14 shutouts for Salinas.
Mitty is unbeaten at home this year, having outscored opponents 42-13 on the season. It will go into the playoff opener unbeaten in its last eight games.
