You could slowly see the transition unfold two years ago when the Pirates, despite a 6-8 league mark, reached the Central Coast Section Division V semifinals.
Last season Stevenson doubled its Mission Trail Athletic League win total to 12 and earned a spot in the State Northern California Division V semifinals.
Five games into this year's league season and the Pirates are 5-0 going into tonight's game with once-beaten Pacific Grove, chasing the programs first league title in nine years.
The one common bond among the three teams has been junior guard Ambreece Gaskins and senior center Fauve Koontz.
Gaskins gave Stevenson instinct credibility the minute she stepped on the court, having led the team in scoring in all three of her years, as well as steals.
She's a difference maker on both ends of the court, as is the 6-foot-1 Koontz, who has been a double-double machine the last two years.
This is still a team in transition as just three seniors make up the roster while three freshmen and three sophomores are apart of the rotation along with junior Antonia Malate.
Yet, it's also a program that believes its time is now in chasing perfection and ending a nine-year title drought.
