In what was arguably the biggest game of the season for the Pacific Grove girls basketball team, Allie Patton recorded a triple-double with 24 points, 19 rebounds and 15 steals in a 51-42 decision over previously unbeaten Stevenson on Tuesday.
With the win, the Breakers have moved into a three-way tie for first place in the Mission Trail Athletic League with Stevenson and defending league champion Carmel -- all at 5-1.
"I like the focus on the details our girls played with tonight,'' Pacific Grove coach Robin Lewis said. "Our goal is to get better each time we take the court. Tonight was another step in our program.''
Vada Courtney added 11 points for Pacific Grove, while Kulaea Tulua tallied eight points. Ambreece Gaskins finished with 17 points for Stevenson, which saw its six game winning streak snapped.

Carmel 52, Santa Catalina 24 >> Soana Laulotu recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds as the Padres moved into a first-place tie in the MTAL. Katie Godon added 12 points and five steals for Carmel (5-1). Audrey Bennett led Santa Catalina with 11 points, while freshman Abby Gunter added 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Alvarez 51, Monterey 44 >> JJ Chaboya had 12 points as the Eagles held off Monterey. Esmeralda Navarro added 11 points for Alvarez, while Aaliyah Foster finished with nine.
Notre Dame 45, Pajaro Valley 42 >> Kelly Kinion dropped in 16 points as the Spirits closed the first half of the Monterey Bay League Pacific Division season at 3-3. Ally Tomasello added a season-high 11 points for Notre Dame.
North Salinas 52, Christopher 30 >> Jozzette Reyes and Danielle Taylor combined for 35 points as the reigning four-time MBL Gabilan Division champs improved to 6-0 in league. Reyes finished with 18 points while Taylor tallied 17.
Seaside 43 Watsonville 40 >> Sophomore Jordan Olivares produced 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the Spartans won their fifth straight game to close the first half of the MBL-P season in a tie for first. Olivares also had eight steals. Jocelyn Hernandez added eight points for Seaside.
Boys basketball
Stevenson 59, Pacific Grove 43 >> The Pirates have created some interest in the MTAL after knocking reigning three-time league champion Pacific Grove from the unbeaten ranks.
"The boys played well," Stevenson coach Justin Clymo said.
As a result, the Breakers and Stevenson are locked in a tie for first at 5-1. The teams will meet one more time in the second half of the season.
"Credit to them," Pacific Grove Dan Powers said. "Stevenson played really well. Justin (Clymo) is doing a great job over there."
Winston Elstob led a balanced Pirates attack with 14 points, while Ben Stork finished with 12. Patrick Donohue added 11 points and Kenny Pich had nine points and nine rebounds. Will Lansbury had eight points.
Brad Sendell led the Breakers with 21 points, while Zack Miller had a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds
Trinity 95, Pacific Collegiate 56 >> Deven Smith dropped in 27 points as the Warriors improved to 4-1 in the MTAL Coastal Division. Jamez Booker added 27 points and 11 assists for Trinity, while Vincenzo Mala finished 24 points and 12 rebounds.
Carmel 77, Marina 44 >> Hayden Stachelek had 17 points and Antonio Giangiorgi tallied 14 for the Padres. Kevin Cook added 12 points for Carmel, while Alex Michel finished with 10. Carlos Esparza-Ponce sparked Marina with 18 points.
King City 56, Greenfield 43 >> After an 0-12 start, the Mustangs won their third straight game. Ceddy Perez had 20 points for King City, while Andy Barrios tallied 18 and Nolan Johnson 13. Cris Aldana finished with 12 points for the Bruins. Andrew Villagomez added 10 points and Rafa Santibanez finished with nine.
Soledad 62, Gonzales 45 >> Sam Caldera had 15 points as the Aztecs beat Gonzales. Billy Hollman and Beto Tinajero each had 12.
Girls soccer
Soledad 6, Pacific Grove 0 >> Belinda Ascencio added to her career school-record total, producing four more goals as Soledad won its fourth straight game.
Ascencio, who has 79 career goals, has 19 this winter, including 13 in her last four games for the defending MTAL champions. Soledad sits a game behind unbeaten Carmel at 5-1-0.
Karla Venegas added a goal and two assists for Soledad. Joanna Martinez had a goal while Monique Ascencio compiled two assists. Pacific Grove fell to 3-2-1 in the MTAL.
Greenfield 8, Gonzales 4 >> Katie Martinez scored five goals as the Bruins erupted for a season-high eight tallies. Dulce Avalos added a goal and four assists for Greenfield. Tracy Gonzales and Lucero Martinez also scored one goal.
Boys soccer
Monterey 2, Palma 1 >> Louis Sanchez assisted on goals from Javier Espinosa and Ariel Perez as the Toreadores improved to 5-0-1 in the MBL-P. Branden Werner produced the only goal for Palma (4-2-0).
Marina 2, Stevenson 1 >> Yerson Romero scored two goals, including the game winner, and the Mariners broke into the win column in MTAL play at 1-2-1. Yoni Alvarez added a goal for Marina.
Seaside 3, Monte Vista Christian 0 >> Ossiel Vasquez, Bryan Hernandez and Robert Sierra all scored goals as the Spartans won their first MBL-P game of the season, improving to 4-7-1 overall.
Gonzales 2, Greenfield 1 >> Henry Flores produced the Bruins only goal in a nail-bitting loss to South County rival Gonzales.
North Salinas 2, Salinas 0 >> Saleh Abdullah scored two goals on assists from Cristian Jara and Salvador Parra as the Vikings improved to 4-1-1. Ronaldo Aguilera recorded the shutout.
