Pacific Grove-Carmel girls hoops

Having already surpassed last year's entire win total, the Breakers are no longer sneaking up on their rivals in the Mission Trail Athletic League at 3-0.
Yet, the pop quizzes that Pacific Grove has faced through its first 10 games of the season turn to a mid-term tonight when it visits reigning two-time league champion Carmel.
One reason for the Breakers turnaround has been the return of Allie Patton, who transferred back to Pacific Grove after moving to Alabama last year as a sophomore.
The junior guard has been chasing triple doubles all season while averaging nearly 14 points a game. Patton's presence on the floor has seen Vada Courtney emerge as a threat from the perimeter.
With teams forced to focus on Patton, the 4-foot-11 Courtney is averaging a team high 15.8 points a game while Danielle Pasquariello has made her 6-1 presence felt in the paint.
While graduation stripped Carmel of its top two scorers, sophomore Soana Loalatu has been a big headache for opponents in the paint, pounding out double-doubles.
The Padres have had a presence inside the key with Jessica DiLullo teaming with Loalatu to provide a version of the twin towers.
A concern for Carmel is the Breakers tenacious defense, which has created 148 steals this year, 68 from Patton.
