This is not your normal, work out the flaws, find that identity non-league game. For starters, it is coming two weeks into league play.
Oh, and the Toreadores are on peoples radar at 14-0, visiting the defending Central Coast Section Division IV champions.
In hindsight, the result will not effect league standings or likely playoff arguments in six weeks.
Yet, pride has a way of creating anticipation.
And it should.
It's not a mistake that Monterey is 14-0 this season -- surpassing last year's entire win total -- behind two-time all-county guard Kobe Ordonio.
And it's not a fluke that the Breakers have won three straight Mission Trail Athletic League titles behind two-time league Most Valuable Player Brad Sendell.
What's different for Ordonio is he has a supporting cast around him, anchored by sophomores Evans Charles, Mohammed Adam, Mohanid Adam and Tahjae Ordonio.
The stage isn't too big for the fab four, who are averaging a combined 40 points a game behind the older Ordonio, who leads the team in scoring for the third straight year.
While Sendell is clearly the heartbeat of Pacific Grove, senior post and Harvard bound Zack Miller has combined for a handful of double-doubles this season.
The Breakers (10-2) have a trio of sophomores up as well, including Sendell's brother Jack and Jalen Killian, who has given the team a presence beyond the 3-point arc.
Two contrasting styles on offense will make for a unique setting.
