Girls hoops for the second half

No one is going to catch North Salinas in the Gabilan Division as a fifth straight girls league title is theirs to lose.
The question for the Vikings is could they end up in the Central Coast Section Open Division playoffs instead of Division I, where they have played in the last three DI finals, winning two of them.
If North Salinas runs the table in the Gabilan Division, it will go into the postseason 22-3. The past may push them into the Open Division whether it wants to or not.
Of course, a spot in the Open Division playoffs ensures them a trip to the State Northern California Division I tournament.
The Vikings -- anchored by senior holders Danae Snell and Danielle Taylor -- have either won or shared every Gabilan Division title since the division was formed five years ago.
The Pacific Division is wide open as three teams are within one game of each other, including co-leading Seaside, who has rattled off six straight wins since a league opening loss.
Sophomore Jordan Olivares has been the catalyst behind the Spartans resurgence, along with Alonis Ingram, who has become a valuable piece to the offense.
North County's only setback in league was administered by the red hot Spartans while Watsonville has cooled after a 4-0 start. Jocelyn Cazarez leads the Condors in scoring.
No one had the Condors projected as a title contender, despite finishing second last year. Yet, a new coach has installed belief in a program chasing its first league title in six years.
Reigning two-time Mission Trail Athletic League champion Carmel has company this winter with preseason favorite Stevenson and Pacific Grove all locked in a tie.
The Pirates surge to the top starts with Ambreece Gaskins while the return of Allie Patton this year has given Pacific Grove a resurgence.
Gaskins willed Stevenson from the jaws of defeat late in the game to beat King City. Patton has put together a pair of triple-doubles this winter.
