CSUMB men's hoops

This was not the season the Otters envisioned when practice began in October.
An abundance of highly touted freshmen, coupled with a big-time transfer and two key players from last season had expectations soaring.
No one, though, could have envisioned the loss of the schools all-time leader in three-point goals in Evan Zeller to a season ending injury before the season started.
Not only was Zeller the teams top returning scorer, but his senior leadership has been sorely missed on the hardwood along with Mateo Jones, arguably the teams top defender last season.
Fortunately Zeller and Jones will be back next year. That likely won't be the case for one-time Texas A&M forward and transfer Shawn Smith, who failed to make grades at CSUMB.
Five players -- four of which were expected to start -- are not on the floor. Four of them are expected to come back next year.
As a result, no seniors are playing for the Otters, who are just 3-12 going into tonight's game at CSU- Dominguez Hills.
If you're looking for positives for the Otters, Jahvon Johnson, Kevin Warren and Stephen Matthews have gotten valuable playing time as freshmen, although Matthews has missed time with injuries as well. The trio are the teams top scorers.
In addition, 6-foot-11 sophomore Gregg Polosky has been productive inside, and is one of the top shot blockers in the conference.
Depth and talent will not be an issue next season for the Otters.
