Alvarez boys wrestling

It's hard to get exposure when you're in the same league as a nationally ranked program.
Yet, the Eagles are inching their way up the state rankings ladder, making statements in prestigious tournaments all winter.
Alvarez is pushing the envelope as it evolves into one of the top ranked wrestling programs in the Central Coast Section behind only Gabilan Division rival Gilroy.
A second place team finish last year at the section finals was not a fluke. The program has continued to clear barriers as it grows in stature and reputation.
It certainly doesn't hurt having two-time state meet qualifier Riley Siason (111 pounds) and reigning CCS champion Matt Martinez (181) providing an example.
Both have had impressive wins over state ranked opponents this year, as did Kevin Ruiz at 195 pounds.
In fact, the Eagles have eight wrestlers capable of not only placing at the section finals, but reaching the state championships.
As for matching up with Gilroy, that dual meet is in two weeks. No one has beaten Gilroy in a dual in over a decade. Alvarez is going to show up anyway.
