Steven Zenk

The Steve Goodbody coaching tree expanded to Alvarez and Alisal last year.
I expect a third to surface at Salinas High as his replacement in the coming weeks.
Steven Zenk isn't just a logical choice, he's the right choice.
In house, on campus, with a grasp of the system and the respect of his players. He fits the mold of what Goodbody has preached for 11 years.
Zenk also has head coaching experience, having spent nine years as the head man at North Salinas, guiding them to a 7-4 record in his final season. He's got experience on both sides of the ball.
While I suspect numerous and qualified candidates will submit applications from all over the state, there is no reason to go out of your own house.
This isn't a rebuilding project. Goodbody is leaving the program as healthy as any in the county. This is a program gearing for a title run next fall.
Why disrupt chemistry when you already have an on campus coach that players respect?
Maybe hiring Zenk makes too much sense.

Probably more appropriate to say Zenk is from the Coach Cameron branch as an assistant at Hollister before he was a head coach at North Salinas for several years. Zenk also is a graduate of Palma in 1992 and was coached by Norm Costa and played line at Santa Clara University under Coach Malley and University of Idaho.

I say this because Zenk was a successful coach at North Salinas before coaching at Salinas Nigh. I'm sure he learned a lot from Coach Goodbody but he also was a successful head coach before for many years and started high school coaching under Cameron at Hollister as an assisttent. He did great at North High given the numbers that went of for football and most importantly he got the teams grades up. Under his teams few on his teams had to leave in the season due to be academically ineligible. With the numbers they get at Salinas, he could probably turn them into a powerhouse especially the next couple years with the talent they will have. Zenk has been influenced by many great coaches and his experience. I think he would be a great choice. Their OC I hear is also a very good coach.
