You can not suggest that the Pirates have laid a foundation for the future with their first postseason appearance in 16 years.
Otherwise, why did it take so long to get back to the playoffs? Stevenson's football program is unlike any other in the county. Sports is a sidebar on campus.
Football practice starts two weeks later than any other program. As a result, Stevenson plays a nine game schedule instead of 10.
Yet, the Pirates were a feel good story this fall with their postseason appearance. But this was not a happy to be there kind of experience. And the moment wasn't too big.
Was it rare? Yes. Were the Pirates content? No.
Stevenson held a lead in the fourth quarter before falling by five to Seaside. It ran out of steam in the final five minutes when it couldn't get its offense back on the field.
That happens when you play an entire season with a roster 25. The Pirates were spent, leaving it all on the field.
The cupboard won't be bare next season. But there will be big shoes to fill. The seniors on this roster were talented. More importantly, they provided a work ethic for the future to follow.
