Central Coast Section Division IV
Friday's game
Silver Creek (6-4) at Soledad (7-3), 7 p.m.
The roles will be reversed this time around as the Aztecs will host Silver Creek in a rematch of last year's Division IV first round postseason game.
Soledad, which went 7-1 after an 0-2 start, is hosting its first ever playoff game after earning the No. 2 seed behind top seed Westmont.
The Raiders, who defeated Soledad 22-16 last year, were the runner-ups in the Santa Teresa Football League to Westmont at 5-1.
These teams are similar with their numbers as the Aztecs allowed 159 points while Silver Creek gave up 170 points. Both teams opened the season with a pair of losses.
Emmanuel Ortega has rushed for over 200 yards in each of his last two games for Soledad, giving the junior tailback 1,232 yards on the season.
Robbie Santa Ana has thrown for nearly 500 yards in three starts behind center for the Aztecs, with Aaron Rodriguez and Angel Olivas both catching touchdown passes.
Yet, if you've followed Soledad, the offense has been a sidebar this year to a filthy defense, that has put up record breaking numbers.
In addition to a school record three shutouts, the Aztecs defense has scored four touchdowns this fall, with Olivas and Rodriguez both returning interceptions for pick six's.
The front seven for Soledad is as talented as any in the county, having registered 41 sacks, with 25 coming from Andrew Hernandez and Daniel Contawe.
The Aztecs have come out and shut down teams in the third quarter this year, allowing nine points in 10 games.
Ironically, it was the third quarter that was the difference in last year's postseason game as Silver Creek outscored Soledad 6-0 in a six-point win.
