Next week, next year. Or maybe 10 years down the road, we will look back at this and say 'wow'.
The Cougars historical run, in which they went 25-0 in the Central Coast Section, likely will not be duplicated again.
Or will it?
Have you glanced at Santa Catalina's roster?
The Mission Trail Athletic League's Most Valuable Player is coming back in setter McKinley Fox for a fourth season. So is libero and all-leaguer Olivia Satow.
The firepower at the net for the Cougars will be intact as sophomore Maria Santos and Saige Madden will be back.
So will Kia Shoemaker and Alicia Rector, two sophomores that made an impact at the net in taking the program to its first Central Coast Section Division V title.
Santa Catalina coach Paul Elliott says 'we'll be better next year'. Yes you will.
But Elliott is also going to challenge this group with a stronger non-league schedule, perhaps a more prestigious tournament.
He's willing to absorb a loss if it will help take the program to the next level. Going undefeated may be unrealistic. But a shot at a state championship in 2017 is not.
