Sacred Heart Prep-Carmel football

Central Coast Section Division V
Saturday's game
No. 8 Sacred Heart Prep (2-8) at No. 1 Carmel (10-0), 1 p.m.
How does a team with a 2-8 record make the postseason? Well, the Gators went 2-3 in the Peninsula Bay Division, where four teams qualify for the playoffs.
Don't sleep on Sacred Heart Prep, who went to the DV state title game last year and beat Carmel 76-58 in a non-league game last year in Carmel.
Granted, it's not the same team. But all eight of their losses are to teams in the postseason, including two top seeds and No. 2 seed.
Quarterback Daniel Higman has put the Padres on his shoulders of late, having thrown or rushed for 11 touchdowns in the last two games, accounting for all six last week.
Higman is closing in on 1,000 rushing yards to go along with his 1,700 passing yards. Luke Melcher stepped up last week with his first 100 plus yard rushing game.
The Padres jaggernaut offense is averaging 44.5 points a game, having produced 108 in their last two games.
The Gators have been balanced offensively with Thomas Wine throwing for over 900 yards and nine touchdowns, while tailback Isoa Moimoi is averaging over 100 yards on the ground.
Having completed its fourth undefeated regular season in eight years, the Padres have reached the title game twice and the semifinals once.
