Hartnell-Los Medanos football

Saturday's game
Hartnell (6-3) at Los Medanos (7-2), 1 p.m.
The Panthers don't have to win this game to keep their flickering title hopes alive. But it's a must win if they have any aspirations of playing in a bowl game.
With this being a non-conference game, Hartnell has to hope West Hills and MPC fall in their season finales to gain a share of the conference title.
Los Medanos is in a similar predicament in terms of chasing a bowl game as its conference hopes are gone in the American Pac 7 Conference.
Quarterback Gabe Taylor has tossed 18 touchdown passes this season for Los Medanos, with Jacob Puente catching seven touchdown passes.
The strength of Los Medanos has been its defense, which has forced 19 turnovers this fall, while the Panthers have 17.
The difference, though, is Los Medanos is plus six in turnover ratio while Hartnell is minus eight.
Sherrod Hawkes needs 14 yards to go over 1,000 for the second time for Hartnell. The sophomore is averaging a state leading 109.8 yards a game on the ground with eight touchdowns.
Missing linebacker Donyae Moody to a knee injury was huge in the Panthers loss to MPC. Moody is second in the state in tackles at 11.8.
Palma product Angel Maldonado has produced 6 1/2 sacks this year for Hartnell while Alvarez alum Lanier King has 5 1/2 sacks and two interceptions.
