Monterey-Gilroy football

Friday's game
Monterey (3-5) at Gilroy (5-3), 7:30 p.m.
Having surpassed last year's entire win total, the Mustangs only Pacific Division loss this year was a 34-32 setback to unbeaten Seaside on the road.
A dynamic ground game has seen sophomore Joseph Barnes go over 1,000 yards rushing this season for Gilroy while junior Dylan Holler could join him before the year is up.
The pair have accounted for 23 touchdowns this season for the Mustangs, who will likely need to run the table to hope for an at-large playoff spot.
Since erupting for a season high 48 points, Monterey's offense has produced just 14 points in its last two games. Last week it was shutout for the first time since 2006.
Defensively, the Toreadores defense, anchored by Mercury Compagno and Nick Stornetta, has given up just 47 points in four Pacific Division games.
Isaiah Jones has a team high four interceptions for Monterey, who will attempt to snap a nine-game road losing streak that dates back to 2014.
