Carmel-Gonzales football

Friday's game
Carmel (8-0) at Gonzales (1-7), 7:30 p.m.
The Padres aren't the same offensive jaggernaut without 1,000 yard tailback Covossay Windham, who injured his left knee last Saturday in the first quarter.
Without Windham, opponents in the postseason will put an emphasis on containing quarterback Daniel Higman, who tossed three touchdown passes in last week's come-from-behind win.
A much improved defense has shut down opponents all season for Carmel. That unit will be forced to become the focal point if  Windham is out. Last week it forced three turnovers.
Gonzales is coming off its first win of the season behind quarterback Jose Espinosa, who accounted for all six touchdowns.
In Windham's absence this week, four-year starting defensive back Eddie Osornio will likely fill in. Osornio went over 100 yards rushing in two starts last year.
The Spartans haven't beaten Carmel since 2003, the last time they reached the postseason.
