Monterey boys water polo

The Toreadores can do something tonight they have never done in the programs 22 year history.
And that's clinch a league water polo title outright with a win over York at Santa Catalina.
Monterey shared a title more than a decade ago when it was in a supplemental league.
Owners of 10 straight Pacific Division wins, the Toreadores are 12-1 in league play behind snipers Connor Hertsch and Jonathan Nuttall, who have combined for 88 goals this year.
Nuttall is also among the team leaders in steals while Nathaniel Perez has a team high 42 steals and 24 assists.
Goalie Andres Poehner has been a rock between the pipes with 170 saves this season. Monterey's defense has held eight teams to five goals or less.
Earlier this year Monterey knocked off York 10-2. Having used four different facilities to call home this fall, it is unbeaten at all four sites.
Yet, the signature win for Monterey came when it knocked off Christopher 7-5. Prior to that win, it had fallen to their league rival three times, twice in tournaments by two goals or less.
