Seven seasons, seven straight losing records. Three of them have been winless seasons. Marina could find itself winless in the MTAL for the fifth time.
It's been an uphill climb for the Mariners since the program went to 11-man football.
Those who questioned the move seven years ago had a right to. The program wasn't prepared for the move. Selling the program on campus has been a process.
But that's not the reason Marina is struggling this fall at 1-8.
Injuries have crippled the program, which is down to 17 players for the final game of the season, two of which are special need kids, according to head coach Vernon Calhoun.
The Mariners have lost 11 players to season ending injuries, including three quarterbacks and its best defensive player.
Marina has given up 40 or more points in all eight losses this fall, including a school record 78 in one game.
Calhoun appeared to have the program pointed in the right direction, winning four games in 2013 and three last season, setting a school record for points.
Yet, losing 11 players to season ending injuries would cripple any program. The fact that Marina is going to play its final game is a testament to its character.
