Covossay Windham

Covossay Windham got the news he feared.
An MRI Monday revealed that the three-time 1,000 yard tailback has a torn ACL, and will be lost for the reminder of the season for 8-0 Carmel.
Windham was injured in a non-contact play in the first quarter after catching a 22-yard touchdown pass against King City in a 27-24 win.
"I just want to thank all my coaches over the last four years for the hard work,'' said Windham, who finished with 1,072 rushing yards in six full games this fall.
Windham will likely have surgery on Friday.
Windham's injury occurred early in the first quarter when his left knee buckled as soon as he stepped into the end zone.
"No one touched him,'' Carmel coach Golden Anderson said. "He lifted his leg a little higher to avoid a defender. He stepped in the end zone with his right leg. When his left planted, he went down.''
In three years at Carmel, Windham rushed for 4,432 yards and 50 touchdowns. His last play for the Padres was a touchdown.
"I want my teammates to keep going hard,'' said Windham, who missed two full games last year with a knee injury.
The Padres are currently 5-0 in the Mission Trail Athletic League. A win on Friday at Gonzales will clinch no worse than a share of their eighth title in nine years.
Windham, whose uncle is former Eagles running back Anthony Toney, was a two-time member of The Herald's All-County team
"I had four great years at Carmel,'' said Windham, who has gotten attention from colleges. "I will be back stronger.''
