Yuba-MPC football

Saturday's game
Yuba (0-0) at Monterey Peninsula (0-0), 6 p.m.
Among Yuba's wins last year during a 5-5 campaign was a 30-15 win over the host Lobos in Week 8. It was 3-1 in games decided by three points or less.
After starting the year 4-2 and putting themselves in position for a postseason bid, MPC dropped three of its final four games to finish 5-5.
You can make the argument that the Lobos addressed their defensive needs last year, with their top three returning tacklers all back this fall.
Anthony McKay and Andrew Jakubowsky each had 71 tackles while McKay piled up nine sacks as  a freshman in 2105. Elijah Kirkland added 53 tackles and three picks.
The hope this fall is that the Lobos have found an explosive tailback in freshmen Akili Jones to run behind a wall that includes all-conference selection Joe Love.
Kody Steele threw for 393 yards and four touchdowns in limited duty last year, tossing just one pick in 70 attempts.
It's virtually a new receiving core for the Lobos after the top six receivers in catches last year were sophomores.
Among Yuba's losses last season was a five-point decision to Hartnell, and a three-point setback to Contra Costa, both of which went to bowl games.
