Santa Catalina-Salinas volleyball

Seldom do you put too much emphasis on a non-league match.
Yet, with league play five days off, both teams will use tonight's challenge as a barometer.
Uncharted waters last fall in reaching the State Northern California Division V semifinals, the bar has been raised at Santa Catalina, who has swept its first two opponents.
Salinas is looking to climb back to the top of the ladder after seeing its run of four straight Gabilan Division titles end last season.
Four of the six starters are back for Santa Catalina, including three-year starters McKinley Fox and Olivia Satow, as well as the team leader in kills last fall in sophomore Maria Santos.
The 6-foot-1 Fox has a variety of targets at the net, including Saige Madden, who compiled 15 kills in the Cougars sweep of Monterey.
Salinas' attack starts with junior outside hitter Taylor Rose, who has 48 kills in three matches. Senior Kathleen Bass provides a presence in the middle for setter Kamryn Sutton to pass to.
Rose has also made an impact in the back row on rotation along with libero Isabelle Mandon.
Salinas has been one of the more prolific programs in the county under coach Andy Mandon with seven league titles in nine years, one Central Coast Section DI title and one Nor Cal DI title.
