San Benito-Alvarez football

Friday's game
San Benito (4-0) at Alvarez (2-2), 7:30 p.m.
If facing the states No. 9 ranked team wasn't enough of a challenge, now the Eagles play host to the undefeated Balers.
Alvarez is in the middle of a five-game stretch, where the combined record of its opponents is 16-4 -- three of which are reigning league champions.
San Benito has won three of the last four meetings between the two teams, ending the Eagles season twice in the CCS Division I semifinals.
Stopping Hunter Nye would be priority No. 1 for Alvarez, as the tailback has over 700 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in four games for the Balers.
Another Hunter, as in quarterback Hunter Raquet, has not tossed an interception in 48 attempts for San Benito. Defensively, Isaac Regalado has four picks, including a 101 yard interception.
While Alvarez has done a nice job in harassing quarterbacks with 12 sacks, six from Alan Llamas, it has struggled against the run, allowing 400 plus rushing yards two weeks ago.
Quarterback Logan Esparza has been the Eagles leading rusher while Matthew Martinez has a team high four rushing touchdowns.
