Salinas City Meet

An argument can be made that four boys teams will be in contention today at the Salinas City Meet cross country championships at Natividad Creek Park.
Among them is Salinas, who won the Gabilan Division Center Meet last week behind Alfredo Mejia and Christoph Klemsz, who finished second and third overall.
The pair will be chasing Brandon Gutierrez, who won the Gabilan Division meet last week for North Salinas, the defending boys City Meet champions.
Don't discount Palma, whose distance core includes defending City Meet champion Sam Lavorato, as well as Thomas Padilla, who went to the state meet last year as a freshman.
Alisal's depth makes them a factor in the meet as well as distance ace Peter Maciel will challenge for individual honors.
On the girls side, Kayla Clayton will look to defend her City Meet title, as Salinas and Notre Dame are expected to battle for team honors.
Chasing her will be Spirits freshman Angela Leavitt, who won the Pacific Division Center Meet last week, outdistancing teammate Shantal Martinez.
