Gavilan-MPC football

Saturday's game
Gavilan (2-1) at MPC (3-0), 6 p.m.
After opening the season with wins by five and two points, the much-improved Rams were knocked from the unbeaten ranks last week by Los Medanos.
A common opponent is San Jose, who the unbeaten Lobos defeated 33-20 last week while Gavilan posted a 27-22 season opening win.
Quarterback Davonta Blake has been sharp in two starts for MPC, completing 42-of-53 passes for 525 yards and six touchdowns. He also leads the team in rushing with 118 yards.
Five different receivers have caught at least one touchdown, including King City grad Jarod Davis, who grabbed nine passes last week, two for touchdowns.
Michael Armstead averaged nearly 25 yards a catch last week for the Lobos while Jacob Collins had the longest run from scrimmage, bolting 41 yards.
The Lobos defense has to be aware of Monterey High grad Read Reynolds, who has 15 catches for 225 yards and four touchdowns for Gavilan.
Don't be surprised if former prep teammate Anthony Saavedra and his team high four pass breakups draws the assignment of containing Reynolds for MPC.
Andrew Jakubowsky continues to lead the Lobos in tackles with 23 while Anthony McKay has three sacks in his first two games back.
