Alvarez-Palma football

Friday's game
Alvarez (2-3) vs. Palma (2-2) at Rabobank, 7:30 p.m.
After facing four teams that either won section titles or reached the state title game, the Chieftains used the bye week to gear up for another Gabilan Division title run.
Since the league was formed in 2012, Palma has either won or shared the title, posting a 17-1 record in Gabilan Division play.
Alvarez, who has dropped three straight after a 2-0 start, has never beaten the Chieftains in its two decade existence.
Two blocked punts were costly in last week's 17-point loss to 5-0 San Benito for the Eagles. One resulted in a touchdown. The other led to a score.
Emilio Martinez might be chasing a 2,000 yard rushing season, having piled up 700 yards after four games, with 12 touchdowns.
More passes in the area of receivers Isaiah Blanco and Sam Robinson could be in order, as Blanco is averaging over 18 yards a catch and Robinson 15.8.
Stanley Smith has been all over the field on defense for Palma with a team high 38 tackles and two sacks while Stanford bound offensive lineman Drew Dalman has three sacks.
