Monte Vista-King City football

Friday's game
Monte Vista (0-0) at King City (0-0), 7:30 p.m.
The last time King City won a season opener was in 2009. In fact, during its 10-year playoff drought, it is just 2-8 in Week 1.
Coming off back-to-back 10 win seasons, Monte Vista has been the complete opposite, having won its last six season openers, including its last two against King City.
Monte Vista, who was one bad quarter away from being undefeated in the Gabilan Division last fall, lost six all-leaguers to graduation, including the leagues Player of the Year.
Gone for Monte Vista is the quarterback, its leading rusher and top two leading receivers, along with three quarters of the offensive line and its top two leading tacklers.
King City lost five games last year to teams that were a combined 46-14 -- four of which won league titles.
One thing King City can build off of this year is it registered three come-from-behind wins last fall, and knocked Gonzales out of the playoff picture in its season finale.
Quarterback Tommy Stephens has a pair of sure-handed receivers in David Ortiz and Clay Barbree, while transfer DeVante Anderson is going to make the defense look a lot better.
