Jason Harbert

Former Stevenson athletic director Jeff Young talked about the passing of former football and basketball coach Jason Harbert, and what he meant to the Pirates athletic program.
"There were so many young players and coaches who were so lucky to have been influenced by coach Harbert. There really are not many coaches anymore who have the energy and stamina to take on head varsity coaching positions in two of the more intense sports (football and basketball) back to back, year after year. Jason did it with class, dignity and a calm and composed style. He was so respectful of the feelings of others and that included his players, fellow coaches, opponents and officials. He expected his teams to honor the game and be respectful of each other, their opponents and officials. He never had a harsh word for anyone and as a result his compassionate lifestyle directly influenced the way his players went on and lived their lives. I was so fortunate to be Jason’s assistant football coach for eight years and I borrowed and used everything I could of his knowledge to try and be as successful as he was in turning young boys into men."

Jeff Young said it so well. Jason was truly one of the great ones- win, lose or draw. Bobby Howell
