Carter Aldrete

There is a reason Monterey four-year starting shortstop Carter Aldrete lasted until the 37th round of Major League Baseball's June Amateur draft before being plucked by the Boston Red Sox.
He's got a full-ride baseball scholarship to Arizona State.
Teams knew it would take a big signing bonus to lure Aldrete away from ASU. Most teams weren't willing to waste a high draft pick on someone who likely wasn't going to sign.
Selecting Aldrete in the 37th round is a low risk move, although there's little chance he will explore the thought of signing.
While it's an honor to be drafted, put yourself in his spot.
Would you rather spend at least three years at a big time university playing baseball with people your age or be living in some obscure city, going on eight hour bus rides in the minors.
 It's not a hard decision.
Aldrete was the only baseball player with Monterey County connections taken in the draft.

I wonder if Nick Halamandaris wishes he had signed with the Mariners after being selected in the 8th round. I would much rather take a 6 figure pay day to play baseball than play college baseball for free.
