Mitty-Carmel volleyball

Central Coast Section Playoffs
Division II
Tonight's match
Mitty (24-15) at Carmel (19-5), 7 p.m.
All week Carmel coach Israel Ricardez has preached to his players about not letting the moment get to big.
With good reason. The Gabilan Division champions are in uncharted waters, making their first ever playoff appearance.
On top of that, the Padres were seeded No. 1 overall, facing a Mitty squad that has played 15 more matches then them this year, having swept Pajaro Valley in the first round on Tuesday.
A member of the West Catholic Athletic League, the Monarchs are stacked at the net, anchored by 6-foot-5 sophomore Nicholas Alftin, who sat out against Pajaro as a precaution because of an injury.
Six players stand 6-3 or taller for Mitty, who is 4-1 in its last five matches.
All Carmel did this year was shatter the single-season school record for wins and consecutive wins in going undefeated in league.
The Padres match up with Mitty with Joseph Curtis and Jared McNally, a pair of 6-5 bangers in the front row, not to mention 6-1 Keegan Forrester.
The trio combined for over 500 kills this spring, with Curtis producing 198 in just 19 matches.
Carmel has moved the ball around the floor well this year behind setter Ezra Delbick's 600 plus set assists, while Tyler Boylan has been a rock in the back row.
Both Mitty and Carmel have had 16-game turnarounds from 2015.
