Regaining All-American status won't be all that Malena Grover will be chasing for Hartnell College this weekend.
The sophomore distance ace will go into Saturday's State Junior College Championships the favorite in the 1,500.
Grover, who prepped at Salinas High, recorded the fastest time in the state at last Saturday's Northern California finals in 4:35.47. She's also ranked second in the 5,000 at 17:46.32.
Teammate Nancy Rodriguez is looking to produce points in the 5,000 as well, as she is ranked eighth at 19:16.85.
A North County grad, Rodriguez will look to dip under 12 minutes in the 3,000 steeplechase, where she is ranked fifth at 12:04.34.
Hartnell is sending four women to the state finals as Tori Teraji is ranked eighth in the discus while Alyssa Pochop is listed in the top 12 in the hammer.
Coming off a school record 184-1 heave in the hammer has vaulted Dustin Samms into the top 10 for the Panthers.
Teammate Norman Napolitano extended his season in the pole vault while Javier Garcia and Alvarez grad Jorge Sanchez are among an elite men's field in the 10,000.
