CCS boys track trials

If you've extended your season into its fourth month, you're in an elite field.
Cutting the field in half occurs Saturday at the Central Coast Section trials at Gilroy High.
Advancement comes strictly by times and marks.
Among those looking to push the pendulum is King City distance ace Roman Munoz, who comes in ranked No. 1 in the 1,600 at 4:17.71, achieved at the Top Eight Meet four weeks ago.
Looking for a return trip to the section finals in the 800 is Raul Barraza of North Salinas, whose time of 1:55.33 ranks him No. 3. It's also faster than he ran at last springs CCS finals.
Since uncorking the shot 51-5 1/2 in King City's first dual meet back in March, Jarod Davis has not been able to better the mark.
Still, he'll go into the trials ranked third, just a few inches in front of Soledad's Daniel Contawe, who won the MTAL title over Davis two weeks ago.
UC Santa Barbara bound Nick Lombardi has been consistent at 6-3. To creep into the top three for a shot at the state meet, the Carmel senior will need a personal best over the next two weeks.
Two time CCS spring finalist Zack Miller has moved up from the 100 to the 400 this year, where the Pacific Grove junior is ranked seventh at 49.85 and sixth in the 200 at 22.20.
There's a big upside for Miller in the 400 as he continues to learn the event while gaining endurance after missing the first eight weeks because of an extended basketball season.
A handful of athletes on the bubble include Palma's Kevin Telford in the 400, Drew Dalman in the discus and sophomore Reno DiTullio in the high jump.
Jonathan Chagnon of Salinas is chasing a finals spot in the 300 intermediate hurdles, as is Manuel Gallardo of North County in the discus and Isaiah Guerra of North Salinas in the triple jump.
