Saturday's game
No. 5 Alvarez (21-5) vs. No. 4 North Salinas (21-5) at the Sports Complex, 2:15 p.m.
Not only do both teams have identical 21-5 records, but the Eagles and North Salinas come into the quarterfinal battle having both registered 12-2 wins in their playoff openers.
Alvarez has set new standards this spring with a school record 21 wins while the Vikings might be the hottest team in Division I with seven straight wins.
Shayla Castaneda had a season in one game for North Salinas in its win over Sequoia, with four hits, including a grand slam, driving in eight runs. She also went the route in the circle.
Micaela Leal, who had three hits for the Vikings on Wednesday, could get the start against Alvarez in the circle.
Sophomore Giana Deleon pitched a gem for the Eagles and supplied a big bat, driving in four runs in their romp over Monta Vista-Cupertino, while Angelina Ruiz is coming off a four-hit game.
During its seven game winning streak, North Salinas has wins against two league champions.
