Some of the top throwers in the world are congregating to Hartnell College on Sunday to compete in the Spring Fling Throwers meet.
Among them is 2008 Olympic discus women's gold medalist Stephanie Brown-Trafton and 2015 Pac 12 women's discus champion Valarie Allman of Stanford.
Discus throwers from Italy, Sweden, Netherlands, Great Britain, India, Australia and New Zealand will be looking to take advantage of Salinas' swirling winds to get Olympic qualifying marks.
The women's discus will start at 2 p.m., with the men to follow at 4 p.m.
In addition, a men's and women's open shot put, hammer and javelin competition will be held, with the men's hammer beginning at 10 a.m.
