While I wouldn't call it a prelim to the Central Coast Section finals in six weeks, there are enough big names to give us a sneak peak to what could be in store.
At the very least, tonight's Top Eight Meet in Los Gatos will give track and field athletes an idea of what needs to transpire to reach long terms goals.
Despite leading the section in the 100, Mikayla Revera will forgo the event and focus on the 200 and 400 for Santa Catalina.
A state meet qualifier in both events last year as a sophomore, Revera is ranked No. 3 in the meet and No. 15 in the state in the 400 of 56.23. She is ranked No. 2 in the 200 at 24.93.
Joining Revera in the 400 is Salinas sophomore Brooke Oleson, who is seeded fourth after breaking the school record twice, clocking 57.86 uncontested last week.
Teammate D'Vina Brown, a section finalist last year in the discus, comes in ranked third at 127-8 while Dante Morr is tied for fifth in the high jump at 5-2 along with Notre Dame's Jennifer Lane.
Not only has Santa Catalina freshman Laurel Wong shattered the school record in the pole vault at 11-9, but she is ranked ninth overall. Greenfield's Evelin Meza will look to crack the top 10 in the 3,200.
San Benito three-sport standout Marisa Villegas, who went to the state meet last year in the 1,600, is listed No. 2 at 4:56.85. The junior is also ranked fourth in the 800 (2:18.80).
