If you are looking for an athlete to create a buzz tonight in Los Gatos, watch Zach Miller in the 400 as he looks to dip under 50 seconds.
The Pacific Grove junior has run just two competitive 400's this year, clocking 50.23 uncontested on a cool day two weeks ago.
A Central Coast Section 100 meter finalist last year, Miller has turned his attention this spring to the 400, despite missing the first five weeks of the season because of an extended basketball run.
Miller is also entered in the long jump, where he is ranked sixth at 21-feet-1 1/2.
Will Roman Munoz run all three distance races tonight? Should the King City junior attempt it?
A CCS Division IV cross country champion last fall, Munoz is ranked fourth overall in the 1,600 at 4:21.31.
Munoz is also ranked No. 7 in the 800 (1:58.81) and eighth in the 3,200 (9:39.25). While there will be ample rest, I'd like to see what he could accomplish in the 3,200 with fresh legs.
A 10 plus foot personal best of 155-feet-6 in the discus has Manuel Gallardo ranked No. 2 for North County.
King City could make some noise as a team as Steve McEnroe -- a state meet qualifier last year in the discus, will look to improve upon this year's mark of 143-10.
Teammate Jarod Davis is ranked No. 3 in the shot at 51-5 1/2. The senior has not had a personal best in five weeks.
Jonathan Chagnon has crept into the top eight in the 300 intermediate hurdles after clocking 40.95 for Salinas.
Two other names to watch include Carmel's Nick Lombardi, who is ranked third in the high jump at 6-3, and Palma's Jack Fling, who sailed 12-3 in the pole vault to climb to No. 6.
