Notre Dame-San Benito softball

The earth has shifted more than the reign of power in the tri-region for softball.
Between these two softball powers are 23 Central Coast Section Divisional titles, including two last  spring -- over the last 20 years.
Once again the Spirits and San Benito are chasing perfection in league play, both undefeated going into the first of two meetings tonight at 6 p.m. in Hollister.
The Balers opened the season with 10 straight wins before falling to Central High of Fresno. Notre Dame is 8-1 in its last nine games.
The two teams have split their last four battles, with each winning at home. Notre Dame has not won a game at San Benito since May 3, 2012.
Sophomore Vanessa Gonzalez has continued to shut down teams in the circle for the Spirits, getting support at the plate from Lauren Pullara, Aly Gomonet and Kaeli Bush.
Callee Heen is stinging the ball for San Benito, hitting .648 with three homers while Brittnee Rossi is hitting .595 and Sara Christensen .529.
