The argument that North Salinas should have been in the Gabilan Division this year is valid.
The reigning two-time Pacific Division champions are a combined 41-4 over the last three years in the Pacific, including 9-0 this spring with ace Joseph Gutierrez back for a third year.
Standing in their path today is 7-1 Gilroy, who spent last season in the Gabilan Division.
Pitching has carried both teams this season as the Mustangs have held seven teams to a run or less, using an 18 strikeout, no-hitter from Jimmy Lemberger earlier this year.
North Salinas' pitching staff has produced seven shutouts behind Gutierrez, who has been a part of three of them.
Gutierrez, a two-time member of The Herald's All-County baseball team, is among the team leaders in runs batted in while Tim Burkhardt, Ben Organitsa and Philip Sparks have stung the ball.
The only team to beat North Salinas in league play in the last three years has been Watsonville, who is no longer in the league.
Meaning the Vikings are 41-0 over the rest of the Pacific Division during that same span.
