No one expected MPC to be in this position after injuries depleted the roster a month ago.
Yet, the Lobos are making the most of a magical run.
A 9-1 stretch, which has included six straight wins, has the Lobos in the quarterfinals of the Northern California men's tournament. The 20 wins are the most in 15 years.
Fresno City is also 9-1 in its last 10 games, having captured the Central Valley Conference. It is 26-6 overall, with its last loss coming on Jan. 27.
A common opponent is Chabot, who the Lobos beat 73-68 in the opening round of the playoffs while Fresno posted an 87-82 win back in December.
On the flip side of that, MPC has two losses to San Jose City by four points or less while Fresno City posted a playoff opening 111-71 win over the Jaguars.
DeOndre Otis has continued to ignite the MPC offense, averaging just under 17 points a game while the return of Jazz Bajwa from a broken hand with nine points off the bench.
Seaside grads Kyle Hieb and Chris Evans have provided valuable minutes on both ends of the court with Hieb scoring 12 in the teams last battle.
Isaac Clark showed no ill effects from a severe ankle sprain, hitting 6-of-9 shots from the field in scoring 20 points for the Lobos.
