Pacific Grove boys hoops

If you don't think Pacific Grove's 19 game league winning streak is a big deal, did its 25 point win over Monte Vista last week get your attention?
Let me remind you that the Mustangs are considered one of the elite teams in the CCS in Division IV with their 14-3 record.
Beating Monte Vista wasn't the shocker. It's the 25-point pasting that turns your head.
It's conceivable that these two teams could see each other again in the postseason. Which is why you should never put too much emphasis on one non-league game.
Yet, the Breakers were impressive, holding Monte Vista to 33 points. And this is February, meaning the playoffs are three weeks off.
Reigning MTAL Most Valuable Player Brad Sendell  has put up his best efforts in meaningful games for Pacific Grove, dropping in 21 points against Monte Vista.
But the weight of this team isn't squarely on the shoulders of Sendell. Jake Merenda has scored 11 or more points in four of his last five games.
Production inside continues to come from Chip Wagner and Zack Miller, a pair of 6-foot-5 posts that force opponents to respect Pacific Grove in the paint.
If the defending two-time MTAL champion Breakers weren't on a potential playoff opponents radar in Division IV, they are now.
