The Knights are coming off a third place finish in the West Bay Skyline Division behind powers Priory and Mercy-San Francisco.
Carmel is familiar with the division, having beaten Harker last year in the opening round and King's Academy in 2012 in the Division IV postseason.
Seven of the nine teams the Mission Trail Athletic League champion Padres played in the preseason are in the postseason.
Holly Whitaker averaged over 15 points a game for Carmel. The reigning MTAL MVP had some help with senior Quinn Bernal averaging a double-double this year.
And freshman Soana Laulotu provided stability in the paint all year, averaging over 10 points and 12 rebounds a game in the MTAL.
The Padres are 15-1 in their last 16 games, and are 8-1 at home, with the one loss coming from two-time CCS Division I champion North Salinas.
