What's impressive?
What's not?
The Otters have scored 72 runs, have belted 14 homers and are hitting a collective .298 as a team. Opponents are hitting just .199 off the pitching staff.
CSUMB, who hosts Stanislaus State on Sunday at 2 p.m., has more than doubled the run output of their opponents (72-34).
Three players have three or more bombs, including Myles Hager, who hit four in a three-game sweep at Azusa Pacific last week.
Teammate Hayden Duer is hitting over .500 with three homers while arguably last year's best hitter Kevin Davidson shares the team lead in runs batted in with 11.
While the early season numbers are fantasy like, it wasn't completed unexpected. CSUMB hit .300 for most of last season as a team, finishing at .291.
Replacing two pitching aces this season was the priority. Gabe Katich and former Aptos hurler Jacob Koenig have been sharp in their starts, combining for 27 strikeouts in 19 innings.
As for the bullpen, Kyle Narahara and Steven Zaharias have been flawless in four appearances. Each has two saves without allowing an earned run.
