Trinity (5-10, 4-5)
Wake up calls at 5:30 a.m. Practice at 6. That's how the first five weeks of the year went for Trinity before it played a game.
That's still the protocol three days a week. But twice a week, the Warriors got to use their home court at Cypress Community Church to practice before the start of league play.
Granted, transportation becomes an issue when your home court is eight miles from campus. But it beats the 6 a.m. practices at the Sports Center before school.
Six players are back for their third season under former CSUMB men's basketball coach Pat Costa, all of which he brought up as freshman.
Chemistry is no longer an issue for Trinity. Then again, a lot of his players are seasonal athletics, that play more than one sport on campus.
Looking to fill more of an offensive role this season are returning starters Shane Daughty and Jamez Booker. Both are junior guards that can fill the lane, or knock down the jumper.
The Warriors took their lumps in the preseason as Costa scheduled reigning Pacific Division champ North County and put his team in the Palma Tournament.
Costa wasn't worried about his squads confidence being shaken. To take a step forward, he felt he had to pick up games against better teams to improve his team for the Coastal Athletic League.
Trinity will be fine in the CAL as transfer Ruben DeAnda gives them a presence at forward while freshman Midge Turner provided glimpses of his potential.
