It was questioned, maybe even criticized by a few.
But it wasn't a surprise.
Alisal coach Jose Gil brought up four freshmen this season. And he didn't bring them up to watch.
While the decision meant returning players were going to see their minutes cut, Gil's goal is to have the best players on the court, particularly when his squad is chasing a title.
It's difficult to argue with the results as Alisal is 10-4 overall and undefeated in the Pacific Division going into Wednesday's game at Pajaro Valley.
Of course, this decision was a little easier for Gil to make, as he has arguably the best player in the Pacific Division in Jessy Hurtado, who is dropping in 23 plus points a night.
But Gil brought up a freshman last year in Steven Castro, who was the Freshman of the Year in the Pacific Division.
Where the 'Fab Four' are making the most impact is off the bench, supplying tenacious defense and quality minutes.
Gil doesn't need them to produce a lot of points. Not with Hurtado and his brother Rene, combing for 38.5 points a night.
He doesn't need them to run the offense. He's got holdover Darwin Ongy quarterbacking an offense that has scored 70 or more points five times this year.
Gil is getting what he hoped for out of them -- contributions.
