Greenfield boys basketball

Greenfield (0-21, 0-14)
 That elusive first win.
Second year coach Efren Dominguez is still looking for it.
Three sophomores started last year for Dominguez with an emphasis on the future.
Growing pains were expected. Going winless was not. Inexperience grounded the Bruins. Of their 21 losses, 20 were by double digits.
It is the hope that the experience gained from last year's struggles will change the course of direction this season for Greenfield.
While 6-foot-3 Freddie Pacheco and 6-2 Sabian Jackson provide muscle in the paint, the Bruins will utilize their quickness to push the tempo.
Both Pacheco and Jackson are athletic and can run the floor. But when Greenfield runs a set offense, each provides a physical presence inside with the ability to use the glass.
Greenfield returns its top three leading scorers, including junior Andrew Villagomez, who dropped in 32 baskets from beyond the 3-point arc.
Rafa Santibanez can also knock down the jumper and penetrate to the basket while Roger Contreras was among the team leaders in 3-points goals.
What Dominguez -- a 2002 Greenfield graduate -- doesn't want to rely on is the jump shot. And he shouldn't with two big men forcing opponents to respect the inside game.
There is chemistry on the court with this core, not to mention depth off the bench. Greenfield hasn't forgotten about last season. It just chooses to look to the future.
