Soledad football

A record breaking season and a share of the programs first Mission Trail Athletic League title will be memories of a lifetime.
Yet, turning in uniforms on Monday wasn't expected. You don't make those kind of plans when you're chasing history.
Sure, falling in the playoffs stings for a while.
Particularly since Soledad held the lead until the fourth quarter against 10-1 Silver Creek before falling 22-16 in the Division IV playoffs.
Still, the Aztecs did something they hadn't done in two previous playoff appearances.
They scored -- not once but twice.
Soledad coach Frankie Berlanga talked about the layers coming off one-by-one as the program takes another step forward.
Hey, this wasn't a one time thing.
Soledad is on solid ground. The cupboard isn't bare. And there's a 10-0 junior varsity team to fill in some gaps next year.
The Aztecs knew the only way to get respect out of the area was to go out and earn it.
 Mission accomplished.
