Friday's game
Central Coast Section Open Division I playoffs
No. 7 Alvarez (4-6) at No. 2 Milpitas (8-2), 7 p.m.
The playoffs mean a fresh start for the Eagles, who have reached the semifinals the last two years.
Being on the road isn't such a bad thing for Alvarez, who is 3-1 this year when it travels.
The bad news is Milpitas has won seven straight, going undefeated in the De Anza Athletic League, outscoring opponents 415-158.
The Trojans seven game winning streak began with a 40-6 thumping of Salinas. They have outscored their last two opponents 110-16.
Among the Eagles losses this fall was a 35-14 setback to Salinas.
The Trojans have three running backs with over 600 rushing yards, including Cros Chavez, who has rushed for over 800 yards and 13 touchdowns this year.
Quarterback Oliver Svirsky has thrown for nearly 1,100 yards for Milpitas, with just three picks in over 100 attempts.
Keep an eye on Milpitas lineman Christian Haangana, who stands 6-feet-8 and weighs 380 pounds, and 6-7, 290 pound beast Justin Scrempos. The pair push the pile.
While Alvarez has some size in the trenches and quickness at the skilled positions with Alan Camel Edwards, Milpitas has more.
The Trojans haven't lost a game since falling 22-21 to Valley Christian on Sept. 18 at Levi Stadium.
