Stevenson-Carmel football

Friday's game
Stevenson (3-0) at Carmel (2-2), 3 p.m.
Who had Stevenson as the only undefeated team remaining in the county as we approach the mid point of the season?
All of a sudden, a Friday matinee at Carmel -- the first of its kind -- is significant for both teams.
The road has been kind to the unbeaten Pirates, who have outscored their first three opponents 126-23.
Carmel snapped a four-game home losing streak last week with a 65 point eruption against a team that was undefeated -- the most points produced in the county this year.
While quarterback Jonathan Hugo threw for over 400 yards last week, do not discount that as a change in direction in the Padres scheme.
It just took what Gonzales gave them last week.
If you're an opponent, you have to stop running back Covossay Windham first -- who is on pace for a 1,700 yard rushing season in 10 games.
Of course, the best way to keep Carmel off the scoreboard is to keep the offense on the sidelines.
While Carmel's defense had come under criticism after giving up 76 points in a loss to Sacred Heart Prep, it forced three turnovers last week that led to three scores.
Stevenson is putting the ball in the air more this year - with success behind Casey Mornhinweg, who has tossed eight touchdown passes -- five to Will Lansbury.
But it can't get into a pin ball type of game with Carmel, who has too much firepower.
The Pirates have actually scored first in the teams last two meetings, but haven't been able to sustain the momentum.
