Palma football

Too early to start the buildup?
Well, it's understandable if Palma would like to catch its breath first.
Still it appears that the Chieftains and Salinas are headed for another showdown undefeated in league play.
Palma survived a scare Friday, although I think we all learned that Monte Vista is legit -- that the 5-0 record coming in wasn't a fluke.
The Chieftains persevered with an unknown tailback rushing for 216 yards, and a defense clamping down in crunch time in a 35-25 win.
That's been Palma's recipe for 31 straight postseason appearances.
Digging itself a hole with three turnovers isn't something it's accustomed too. Either is staring at an 11-point deficit late in the third quarter.
While I wouldn't say Jared Torculas rescued Palma with his 200 plus rushing yards, he helped ignite a 21-point second half uprising.
In some respects, this can be looked upon as a confidence builder for the Chieftains, who rallied to win a big game without arguably their best offensive weapon in Emilio Martinez.
Palma possessed a balance attack as tight end Liam McMillin had another monster game in crunch time, catching five passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns.
The Chieftains played four defending section champions in non-league play for a reason. Now you know why.
