Saturday's game
Pacific Grove (4-1) at Stevenson (3-1), 2 p.m.
The Breakers have won 13 straight regular season games against teams in the CCS. What is ironic about their 4-1 overall start this fall is they have not scored in the fourth quarter this year.
Then again, two of their wins have featured running clocks in the final 12 minutes. The first team defense has allowed just one touchdown in the last eight quarters.
The Pirates defense created six turnovers last week, yet only turned one into points in suffering their first loss of the season.
Injuries start to become a factor when you're short on depth. Last week Stevenson finished the game with 20 players.
While Pacific Grove has been a run oriented team this fall, the Pirates have more yards through the air then on the ground as Casey Mornhinweg has thrown for 875 yards.
Mornhinweg has tossed eight touchdown passes, five to Will Lansbury. Yet, Stevenson has actually rushed for more touchdowns (10) -- six from Brennan Mornhinweg.
A scoring by committee approach has worked for the defending MTAL champion Breakers as five different players have scored two or more touchdowns.
Uche Ebo has rushed for nearly 500 yards and five touchdowns in five games while Noah Cryns has either caught or rushed for five touchdowns for Pacific Grove.
Defensively, Pacific Grove has forced 10 turnovers while producing 15 sacks. In its four wins, it has outscored the opposition 112-42 in the first half.
