Friday's game
Pacific Grove (6-1) at King City (4-3), 7:30 p.m.
Who can forget the last time these two teams faced off in King City as it took a one-handed catch for a two-point conversion from Jake Speed in the final seconds for Pacific Grove to post a 42-41 win.
While the defending Mission Trail Athletic League champion Breakers have won 11 straight league games, King City has positioned itself to make a run at its first league title in 32 years at 3-1.
Wacey Barrington made an auspicious return last week from an ankle injury with six clutch catches for 85 yards as a receiver in King City's win over Stevenson.
Barrington's return means you can not double tight end Jarod Davis, who has all eight of King City's touchdown catches this year. Barrington gives the offense a dimension it hasn't had all year.
It also expands the playbook for quarterback Jacob Flores, while giving the Mustangs two big and physical receivers.
The Breakers are a unit that relies on their defense to rattle the opposition and their offense to grind behind running backs Uche Ebo and Noah Cryns.
Cryns might be the most versatile player in the MTAL with 416 rushing yards and three touchdowns and nearly 200 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He's also got two picks on defense.
Since giving up 47 points in a non-league loss to Hilmar, the Breakers have allowed just 45 points in four MTAL games behind Foster Smith, Robert Wilkerson and Sam Fenstermaker.
